Providing training to firefighters and fire officers is a constant challenge.  The various services provided by the Findlay Fire Department relate to both emergency and non-emergency activities, and must encompass a wide variety of topics.

Firefighters, in addition to protecting people and property from the ravages of fire, must now tackle such technical problems as pre-hospital medical care, hazardous materials releases, rescues from confined spaces or high-angle situations, natural disasters, and the increasing possibility of weapons of mass destruction from terrorists.

The non-emergency arena is also broad-based, covering such activities as public fire safety education, knowledgeable building plan review, code enforcement, and arson investigation.

The Training Division of the Findlay Fire Department attempts to provide, for all of its members, the training and education required to meet these challenges.

Some training, such as Firefighter Basic, Fire Officer Development, and technical training for Fire Inspectors is done “off-site” at locations like the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg.  Most of the on-going training received by firefighters in accomplished in-house, utilizing State Certified Fire and Emergency Medical Technician instructors, Company Officers, Senior Firefighters, and state of the art training programs on video and DVD.
