Job Description
The Findlay Fire Department is a 74-member full paid professional department staffing four fire stations and a Fire Prevention Bureau within the City of Findlay.  Each station is staffed by three shifts of firefighters rotating 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off duty.  All firefighters are trained in First Responder Medical, Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Hazardous Materials Operational, CPR and several other areas of expertise.  All firefighters hired complete six weeks of  training at the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.  Firefighters are trained in Level I and Level II classes and obtain an EMT Basic Certification.

Benefits and Pay
Starting salary for new firefighters is $40,442.00 annually and progresses up to a top pay of $50,777.00 for class A firefighters over an eight-year period.  Longevity pay and Education pay is in addition to base pay.  The City of Findlay provides full hospital/medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, sick leave pay, and vacation benefits. The City also provides all uniforms (including Nomex), firefighting equipment and training costs.

How to Apply
The Findlay Fire Department is covered under the laws of the State of Ohio Civil Service Commission and the local Civil Service Commission.  The hiring of all firefighters is through the local Civil Service Commission who administers all of the necessary testing for candidates. The testing is a two step process with a written test and a physical fitness agility test.  Additional credit is given on written test score for those applicants who have Military credit (20%), a degree in Fire Science (10% -15%), are currently certified in the State of Ohio as a firefighter (5%) or currently hold a valid EMT certificate (5%).  All candidates must be between the ages of 18 and not have reached their 31st birthday and pass a medical & psychological examination.  You are also required to have a valid driver's license and establish residence within Hancock County or adjoining counties within 60 days of hire date.
