City and County Partner to Grow Countywide Alert System

Sign up for weather, safety, and utility alerts

Post Date:07/11/2019 12:16 PM
The City of Findlay, along with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, has begun a campaign to sign up Hancock County citizens on a uniform alert system, Everbridge. The system, originally implemented by the City of Findlay in 2012 to provide emergency alerts related to weather and safety services, has been expanded to serve the entire Hancock County region. The Everbridge system allows alerts to be sent via email, voice call, and/or text message to all users, or users within a specific region. The City and County recognize the increasing need for timely and effective communication relating to not only weather events and safety services but also for utility work and other pertinent time sensitive content. By opting in to the Everbridge Alert System, users will receive alerts related to weather, crime stoppers, road closures, missing persons, and more.

Currently only about 1,800 citizens have opted in to utilize the system, however, there are currently over 23,000 contacts in the system. These contacts were acquired through a public phonebook upload when the system was first implemented. The City and County have a goal of getting 5,000 citizens to opt in to the system by January 1, 2020.
