Swearing In Scheduled for New Police Chief

Police Chief John Dunbar Retires

A swearing in ceremony for City of Findlay Police Chief will be held on July 6, 2020, at 9:00am in Dorney Plaza, Findlay, Ohio. Mayor Christina Muryn will formally swear in Robert Ring as the City of Findlay’s next police chief. The public is invited to attend this ceremony.


Chief John Dunbar

Chief John Dunbar announced his intention to retire in January of this year. His last day will be on July 3, 2020. Chief Dunbar started with the Findlay Police Department in 1992. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2006 and Lieutenant in 2010. In June 2017 Dunbar was promoted to Chief. During his time with the department, Chief Dunbar served as a field training officer, detective, and served on the emergency response team (ERT) for 15 years. During his time on ERT, he served as an operator, team leader, and team commander. As Lieutenant, he supervised all three divisions of the department. Chief Dunbar received Officer of the Month recognitions in November 1994 and November 1995 and received the Officer of the Year Award in 1995.

The City of Findlay is grateful for Chief Dunbar’s years of service to the Findlay Police Department and to the community as a whole.

3) Avoid contact with others when possible
4) Try to maintain 6 feet distance when possible
