Fire hydrants are flushed once or twice a year usually in the spring and or the fall.
Hydrants are flushed to:
- Clean out the iron deposits and other settlements that form on the side of the water lines.
- Allow routine maintenance of every hydrant.
- Identify hydrants in need of repair.
- Determine the volume of water available at each hydrant for fighting a fire.
- Provide important information for fire pre-planning.
