Type of Incident: High Speed Pursuit

Date & Time of Incident: August 12, 2016 at 18:17 hrs.

Location of Incident: W. Trenton Ave. at I-75

Brief Description: 

Officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 1161 W. Trenton Ave. for a theft in progress.  While en-route to the store, Officers were advised the suspects entered a maroon Chevy Impala and fled eastbound on W. Trenton Ave.  Officers arrived in the area and located the Impala on the W. Trenton Ave. overpass for I-75. The Officer turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The driver refused to stop and fled northbound on I-75 at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued until the driver gave up at exit 197 in Perrysburg, OH.

The driver, 18 year old Oscar Chears of Detroit, MI. was taken into custody for fleeing and eluding and theft and incarcerated at the Hancock County Justice Center.  A 17 year old juvenile passenger, also from Detroit, MI, was arrested for theft and incarcerated at the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center.

The pursuit traveled 37.5 miles in 25 minutes with speeds reaching 100 M.P.H.

Assisting with the pursuit were the Ohio State Patrol, Wood County Sheriff’s Office, and Perrysburg Township.
