The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for:
- building inspections
- fire investigations
- public fire education
- code enforcement
The bureau is comprised of two firefighters, Matt Pickett and Kevin Shenise.
Matt Pickett serves as the Fire Investigator for the department. Understanding the causes of fires, whether they occur because of human error, a design fault, an act of nature, or malicious intent, besides being required by law, helps prevent fires in the future.
Fire suppression officers often call in the investigator to help determine the origin and cause of a fire and to follow up with the investigation, if necessary. The fire investigator often works closely with law enforcement officers and other investigative resources, such as the Ohio State Fire Marshal and private investigation firms.
Inspector Pickett also handles all background investigations of new hire candidates for the Department. Matt is certified by the State of Ohio as Fire Safety Inspector.
Kevin Shenise focuses on public fire safety education. These activities are aimed at preventing problems before they occur by making people aware of hazardous situations and potentially dangerous acts.
Kevin develops and presents fire safety programs in schools, businesses, churches, and retirement centers, and is active in career exploration programs through Millstream Career Center and the Boy Scouts.
Kevin performs fire safety inspections throughout the City and oversees testing of fire suppression and detection systems. Kevin represents the Findlay Fire Department on the City Planning Commission. Kevin is certified by the State of Ohio as Fire Safety Inspector.
