Tom Shindledecker grew up in western Pennsylvania and western New York. After graduating from New Castle, Pennsylvania High School, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he met his future wife Bonnie. Following undergraduate college, Tom briefly attended graduate school at the Ohio State University. After completing his tour of duty in the United States Army, he accepted a position at a Pottsville, Pennsylvania radio station in 1964 and married Bonnie during his two years there. Tom became the News Director (under the name Tom Sheldon) at WFIN/WKXA and 106.3 The Fox, retiring 2011 after 43 years.
His wife Bonnie retired from teaching in 2012 after 46 years, 32 of those years at St. Michael School as an Art Teacher. Tom and Bonnie have two children, Anne (deceased), and Steven. They have seven grandchildren.
Tom serves as a member of the Hancock Historical Museum Board, is involved with the Fort Findlay Playhouse, the University of Findlay Curtain Raisers (where Bonnie is a board member), and has served on numerous boards and committees during his time in Findlay. He is a past President (twice) of the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters, a three-time President of the Findlay Optimist Club, and has been active in youth hockey, several social service agencies, and with his church, Journey at Christ Church.
