The United States Conference of Mayors President Mitch Landrieu Appoints Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik to Chair Children, Health and Human Services Committee
Mayor Lydia Mihalik (Findlay, Ohio) has been appointed the Chair of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) Standing Committee on Children, Health and Human Services. “Mayor Mihalik’s recent leadership and willingness to work across party lines during the healthcare debate this past summer made a significant difference when it was most needed. I am confident that she will be a strong leader and represent the interests of the nation’s Mayors on children and health and human services by serving on the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s Healthcare Standing Committee,” said USCM President and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
Mayors across the nation are working together to provide safer, stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities. Focused on service delivery for their residents, Mayors are building partnerships, working across sectors and developing innovative solutions.
The USCM Standing Committee on Children, Health and Human Services has policy jurisdiction over issues related to health, including obesity, healthcare, children’s issues, substance use disorders and aging issues. According the USCM, the committee and its staff shape public health priorities by “exploring ways that Mayors as a group can effectively address those priorities” while also seeking “to bring national attention to major children, health and human services initiatives.”
“Representing the City of Findlay with the USCM has been an amazing opportunity over the past several years.” Mayor Mihalik stated. “I am eager to roll up my sleeves and work with the members of the Committee on Children, Health and Human Services. We will tackle issues that affect families in major ways.”
“Mayor Mihalik is a dynamic, new voice in our organization, and we look forward to her being our spokesperson as the nation’s Mayors deal with children and health issues in the year ahead,” said USCM CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran.
This is the first chairmanship that Mayor Mihalik has been appointed to since her selection to the USCM Advisory Board in June of this year. Mayor Mihalik also serves as a Board Member with the Ohio Mayors Alliance, a similar group of Ohio Mayors representing the 30 largest cities in Ohio working through the Federal, State and Local level to create positive policies for the betterment of Ohio Municipalities.
Lydia L. Mihalik is the 55th Mayor of Findlay, Ohio. She assumed office as the first female Mayor of Findlay on January 1, 2012.
